Association Introduction
The Shanghai Arbitration Association is the first local arbitration association established under the promotion of a provincial-level judicial administrative organ in China. It is supervised and guided by the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau, the registration and management authority, and the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice, the business supervisory unit. In September 2023, the Shanghai Arbitration Association held its first meeting of the second member assembly, electing the second council and supervisory board of the association. The association's mission is to enhance self-discipline within the arbitration industry, promote industry exchanges, advance business research, facilitate the development of arbitration, and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of members and the fair competition order. The Shanghai Arbitration Association was the first of its kind to be established in China, representing a beneficial practice of Shanghai's proactive efforts to innovate and reform China's arbitration work. The association has consistently maintained an innovative and open spirit, continuously strengthening its management and service mechanisms. Through enhancing exchanges and cooperation with domestic and international arbitration institutions and the legal service industry, it actively promotes and publicizes Chinese arbitration, promotes the internationalization of Shanghai arbitration, advances the construction of a legal business environment, and contributes to the establishment of an Asia-Pacific arbitration center facing the world. Members of the association include arbitration institutions, arbitrators, mediators, and other organizations and individuals engaged in arbitration practice, theoretical research, and professional services. It implements industry self-discipline management in accordance with the law. The Shanghai Arbitration Association has 65 founding members (including institutional and individual members) and is continuously recruiting new members, with its membership base constantly expanding, injecting new vitality and energy into the association's development. The highest authority of the Shanghai Arbitration Association is the member assembly. The council serves as the executive body of the association, responsible for leading the association's daily operations and reporting to the member assembly. The association's secretariat, as the administrative body of the council, handles the association's daily operational affairs.
